ACC questions Airports Company and Finance Ministry regarding the deduction of US$ 25

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has commenced investigations into the decision to deduct US$ 25 from the amount owed by GMR to the Maldivian government, and questioned Airports Company and Finance Ministry with regard to this issue.

Subsequent to a court ruling on this case, GMR has not been able to impose the charge of US$25 on passengers departing from Maldives as previously planned. This was followed by the government’s decision to deduct this amount from the concession fee owed by GMR every third month.

President of ACC Hassan Luthfee said today that they have commenced investigations to determine if this decision involves any form of treason or corruption, and are in the process of questioning Airports Company and Finance Ministry in this regard.

“We commenced these investigations when the case was highlighted by the media. The case was not submitted to us. We are trying to determine if it involves any form of corruption,” Luthfee said.

Finance Ministry estimates that the government’s monthly income will decrease by about US$ 3 million following the decision to deduct the amounts owed by GMR which include US$ 25 as ADC and US$ 3 as insurance.
