Ghiyasuddin School suspends session due to smell from garbage dump area

Ghiyasuddin School has suspended its session today due to the unpleasant smell originating from the garbage dump areas located near the school.

Ghiyasuddin School Principal Shirmeena Faheem said today that the school session was suspended at 10:00 am.

A total of 800 students attend Ghiyasuddin, which conducts a single session per day.

Shirmeena said that the garbage smell lingered in the school area at the time of the beginning today’s session and that the parents were also concerned about the smell.

The Principal said that, same as Imaadhudheen School which had been severely affected by the smoke and smell originating from the area in the past, Ghiyasuddin has been suffering its affects for some time, but said the condition got worse today due to the heavy rain that poured last night. She said that the direction of the wind today also contributed to the worsening of the smell.

Shirmeena did not however specify the exact garbage dump that the smell was originating from. The closet garbage site to the school is garbage dumping area number two.

Imaadudheen School had suspended its sessions on several occasions earlier this month due to the smell and smoke that had originating from the garbage dump area number one. However, the garbage dump area number two has now been cleared.
