Malé City Council has started erecting iron posts on the road, near the Maldives Monetary Authority’s Head Office, where the 23rd December Alliance has been staging a series of protests against the Government for the past ten nights.
As protest leaders prepared for the protest tonight, hired workers of Malé City Council kept on digging holes, putting up the posts, which are being erected as structure for a fence, closing one side of the road.
As the work was carried on, Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Housing, and Ali “Maizan Alibe” Manik, the Mayor of Malé City, and a number of other officials from the City Council were observing the progress.
Mohamed Falaah, member of the City Council said tonight that the posts were not being erected as an obstruction against the protests, and that the work merely coincided with the protests. He also said that the fence would close down one side of the road from MMA area to the Official Jetty.
