Raajje TV reporter discharged from hospital in Sri Lanka

Reporter of Raajje TV Ibrahim Waheed (Aswaad), who was injured after being hit with an iron rod while travelling on a motorcycle, has been discharged from the hospital in Sri Lanka.

Deputy CEO of Raajje TV Abdullah Yameen told Sun Online that Aswaad was discharged from the hospital at around 8:15 pm yesterday.

He said that Aswaad’s condition has improved but the doctors had said that he may never fully regain sight in his right eye.

Yameen said that Aswaad still has to visit the doctor almost every day, and that he would return to Male’ when he fully recovers.

Aswaad was hit in the head with an iron rod while he was travelling on a motorcycle near Artificial Beach on Boduthakurufaanu Magu on 23 February.

The police have said that the incident is under investigation as a serious case.

Ahmed Vishan, 21, of M. Kereen Light has been arrested on suspicion of attacking Aswaad.

Police said at the latest press conference held in relation to this issue that the attack on Aswaad was premeditated and that investigations had revealed that Aswaad was not attacked because he was a journalist. The police said that efforts were under way to obtain further evidence to facilitate a prosecution.
