Postgraduate Research Centre established at National University

The Maldives National University (MNU) has established a Postgraduate Research Centre and launched its Strategic Plan 2013-2017.

The Postgraduate Research Centre was inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik at a ceremony held at MNU today.

The ceremony to launch the Strategic Plan 2013-2017 was held at the auditorium of the Faculty of Education of the university.

The action plan includes nine main goals, including making the university a place for sustainable education, research, expert staff and successful students.

President Waheed said at the ceremony that in addition to being a place for gaining education, the university should also be a place that creates knowledge related to religion, culture and patriotism.

Referring to the Postgraduate Research Centre, the president expressed hope that research articles would be published in Dhivehi in the future. He said that Dhivehi words need to be created for the technical terms used in research.

He further announced plans to establish a Presidential Research Fellowship at the university, and said that the documents related to this project will be sent to the university in the coming week. He said that due to the lack of funds, it is only possible to establish one fellowship at the moment, but more will be established in the future.

MNU currently offers 150 courses, and has 7,000 enrolled students and eleven campuses.
