Attack on Aswad was not an attack on journalism: Police

Police have said that the attack on Raajje TV journalist Ibrahim Waheed (Aswad) cannot be viewed as an attack on journalism.

During a follow up press conference regarding the investigation of the attack on Ibrahim Waheed, Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department Mohamed Daud said today that the attack on Awad cannot be viewed as a political attack either and that a 18 year old and 21 year old have been arrested in relation to the attack. Daud also said that the attack was pre-planned.

He said that the two people arrested belongs to groups in Male’ and that both of them have existing criminal records. He however did not disclose their profiles.

Daud also said that they are still searching for more people involved in the case, but did not mention any information regarding the purpose behind the attacks.

Ibrahim Waheed (Aswad) was attacked in the head with an iron rod while he was travelling on a motorcycle near Artificial Beach on the 22nd of last month.
