Adhaalath Party welcomes President

Adhaalath Party has said that they welcome the President’s statements clarifying the matter of the minor sentence to lashing. The party said that they welcomed the President when he said that he is saddened by the fact that the meaning of his words regarding the 15 year old girl sentenced to lashing was misinterpreted and that he would never go against a penalty prescribed in Islam.

Speaking to the press inside at the President’s Office yesterday, Adhaalath Party spokesperson and Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that the President’s statements regarding the sentence of lashing passed down on the minor had created a number of opinions amongst the public but said that the President’s efforts to clarify the matter yesterday was welcomed.

“His statements regarding the penalty had created a number of opinions amongst the public. Now the President has revealed what he believes regarding the matter. So, Adhaalath Party greatly welcomes this. I would also like to congratulate him in my capacity as the Islamic Minister,” said Shaheem.

Noting that some parties had not understood what he had said regarding the penalty for the minor, the President said that he would never go against a penalty prescribed in Islam and that he had ordered the case to be reviewed because he believed that there was negligence involved in the matter.

Shaheem said that President’s pledge to protect Islam and the Constitution during his tenure in the Presidency has come as a great relief for the people of the country.
