Do not believe that MDA has been dissolved: Amir

Deputy Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir has said that he does not believe that the party has been dissolved.

In an interview with Sun Online tonight, Amir said that according to the Political Party Act, there are no grounds to believe that MDA can be dissolved.

Amir said that MDA had submitted over 10,000 membership forms to Elections Commission (EC) before the political party bill was passed by the parliament for a second time, and that EC has still not informed MDA of how the forms have been dealt with. He said that there is no reason for MDA to be dissolved due to the failure by EC to process the forms.

“We had submitted more than 10,000 membership forms to Elections long before the bill was passed by the parliament for a second time. It’s the responsibility of the commission to process the forms in time. No one who thinks about things rationally can believe that MDA should be dissolved as a result of that,” he said.

He further said that members of MDA have no reason to be dismayed, and that the party will continue its activities as planned.

“I urge MDA members not to be dismayed because of this. MDA has not been dissolved. MDA exists. MDA’s future is also bright,” he said.

Amir said that even though he does not believe that the party has been dissolved, efforts are under way to file a case regarding the removal of MDA from the registry of EC to Supreme Court.
