In an interview to Sun, the party’s Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that including the new membership forms submitted to the Elections Commission, the party’s membership now stands above 10,000 members and that ratification of the bill, and if it happens, the dissolution of the party will not be related.
He said that the total number of members belonging to the party will be revealed when the elections commission’s registry is updated.

“As the President is the leader of the Gaumee Ithihad Party, the party does not wish for the President to ratify the bill. Even though a number of parties in the parliament have called for its ratification, we do not want to bill to be ratified because it is in clear contradiction to the Constitution. Not as an excuse for not having the required number of members. The Supreme Court ruling regarding the parliament going into recess in 2008 shows that it is illegal. Therefore, we don’t believe that every single thing passed by the Parliament has to become law. But we will respect the President’s decision,” Abbsa said.
Gaumee Ithihad Party has submitted a case to the Supreme Court asking to declare that the bill contradicts the Constitution and to issue a stay order to postpone acting on the bill if it becomes law. Prosecutor General’s Office has also submitted a case regarding the bill the Supreme Court.
