Fuad Thaufeeq to be summoned to Parliament committee regarding political parties bill

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to summon President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq to clarify the difficulties faced by the Commission regarding the delayed ratification of the political parties bill.

The motion to summon Fuad was proposed by deputy leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed, and supported by MDP Parliamentary Group Member and Hevenyru-South MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor. The motion was passed by the unanimous vote of the 5 members present at the committee.

The committee has decided to order Fuad to attend to the committee at 12:30 pm today.

The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions had also decided to summon two additional members from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC); Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid and Attorney General Azima Shakoor, regarding their review of the manner in which the JSC appointed judges to the Hulhumale’ Court bench presiding over the case of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Shahid and Azima are to attend the committee tonight at 8:30 and 9:30, respectively.
