Hearing for Judge Abdulla

Hearing for the case appealed to High Court by JSC has been cancelled due to the authorities’ failure to produce Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed, or someone in his replacement, at the Court.

In the announcement made by the court to cancel the hearing scheduled for 4.30pm today, Judge of High Court Dr Azmiralda Zahir said that the Defence Forces not only failed to comply with the order to produce Judge Abdulla at the court, but also to produce a replacement for him.

She said that even though today’s hearing is cancelled, the court needs to arrive at a decision regarding this case soon.

JSC indicated that the High Court’s interim ruling to postpone this case was appealed against because they do not believe that a case relating to a superior court Judge can be handled by a superior court.

Following the decision to hold Judge Abdulla’s hearing today, a protest was held outside the Supreme Court led by former member of JSC and current Deputy Home Minister Aishath Velizinee and Vice President of MDP Alhan Fahmy, calling to take action against Judge Abdulla.
