Debris suspected to be components from a spacecraft from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been discovered in L. Kunahandhoo.

Residents from Kunahandhoo told Sun the debris was first discovered in the island’s lagoon by an individual who was out fishing on a dinghy on Thursday. They added that the debris was brought ashore last night.

The debris appears to be components from a spacecraft's external fairing or casing, with one of the parts clearly displaying ISRO’s logo.

According to the residents, the debris has currently been kept near the island’s beach area, with authorities yet to attend to the matter.

Sun was unsuccessful in its efforts to obtain a comment from Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) regarding the matter.

It is not unusual for components of space launch vehicles to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and land in the ocean. In most cases, this debris does not present a direct danger.

As the nearest major space agency to the Maldives, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is internationally acknowledged for its notable accomplishments in space exploration. Over the years, the agency has carried out numerous successful missions, including lunar expeditions and a range of orbital projects.
