Shadi Qawasmi replaces Khalid Al-Hamadi as CEO of Ooredoo Maldives

Shadi Qawasmi has replaced Khalid Al-Hamadi as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Maldives.

Ooredoo Maldives announced Shadi’s appointment in a statement on Sunday.

The new CEO, Qawasmi has over a decade of leadership experience across telecom, strategy, and brand management.

He joined the Ooredoo Group in 2015 and held senior roles at Ooredoo Palestine, including Chief Commercial Officer, Sales Director, and Head of Brand and Communications, driving market growth, technology rollouts, and organizational transformation.

Prior to joining Ooredoo, he gained experience in management consulting, business development, and integrated marketing communications, advising organizations on growth strategy and digital transformation.

Qawasmi holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School, France, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University, USA.

Ooredoo Maldives warmly congratulated and welcomed Qawasmi on his new appointment.

“We are confident that, under his able guidance and expertise, the company will continue to thrive, achieve new milestones, and enrich the lives of our communities through digitalization and innovative solutions,” reads the statement.

Qawasmi replaces Al-Hamadi, who helmed Ooredoo Maldives for the last four years.

In Sunday’s statement, Ooredoo Maldives extended sincere appreciation to Al-Hamadi, for his leadership and invaluable contributions to the company, crediting his leadership for the launch of pioneering digital platforms such as the AI-powered care assistant “Evee”, strengthening partnerships with global leaders like Mastercard, TikTok, WhatsApp Business, and Viber, achieving 100 percent nationwide 4G+ coverage, expanding 5G to 80 percent of the population, deploying the PEACE submarine cable, establishing the Tier-3-ready OMDC, and connecting the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort via a dedicated cable.

Highlights of his tenure also include a Guinness World Record for the Largest Underwater Panel Discussion, the inauguration of the new headquarters in Hulhumale’, and CSR initiatives supporting health and air ambulance services nationwide.
