The Maldives Police Service has issued a public alert warning consumers to be vigilant against a scam involving a fake jewelry business operating under the name Raaya Male'.
According to the Police Anti-Scam Centre, the fraudulent page has been advertising on social media, claiming to sell jewelry at steep discounts. The scam lures customers with a “closure sale” offering up to 80 percent off, then redirects them to a fake banking login page during payment.
Police say the fake page is designed to steal cash card and internet banking credentials, including usernames, passwords, and one-time passcodes (OTP). Once obtained, scammers use the information to access victims’ accounts and steal funds.
Authorities have urged the public not to click on suspicious links or enter banking details on unfamiliar websites. Anyone who may have shared information on the site is advised to immediately contact their bank and block their card and account.
Police also noted that scammers are increasingly using sophisticated tactics to exploit public trust. A recent warning was issued about a separate scam falsely claiming to raise funds for a cancer patient.
