Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), led by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, has said that the party membership has reached 10,000 and the membership forms have been submitted to the Elections Commission (EC).
MDA Spokesperson, Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir told Sun Online today that the remaining forms for the party to reach the membership requirement of 10,000 have been submitted to EC today.
EC President Fuad Thaufeeg said that MDA submitted 4,900 membership forms today, 1,000 forms on 13 February, 536 forms on 24 February and 618 forms on 25 February.
Fuad said that over 7,000 forms submitted by MDA are currently pending, and that the commission will start processing the forms soon.
He said that in addition to the pending forms, MDA has 3,354 officially registered members.
The new amendment to the Political Parties Act states that parties that have less than 10,000 members will be dissolved.
