Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will begin visiting patients at home every three months under its new home nursing care service, IGMH Medical Director Dr. Aiminath Zeyba Ahmed has said.
Home nursing care allows nurses and other healthcare professionals to visit patients in their homes to provide medical support, monitoring and guidance for long‑term care.
Speaking to state media, Dr. Zeyba said IGMH has now launched urban primary healthcare services, which include home care. As part of this expansion, the hospital is preparing a programme to regularly visit patients who require long‑term follow‑up.
Training for the programme is currently underway, and services are expected to begin after Ramadan, she said.
The home nursing service will be available only to patients registered at IGMH. According to Dr. Zeyba, the care team will visit each patient once every three months, offering checkups and advising families on how to continue care at home.
Long queues and delays at the main hospital have been a persistent concern for many patients. The new home nursing service is expected to ease some of these challenges, especially for patients who are bedridden or have difficulty travelling to the hospital.
