Maldives beat Kyrgyzstan 3–1 on Monday to move to the top of the Women’s Cup 2025 rankings.
The win marks a significant achievement for Maldivian women’s volleyball, strengthening the team’s hopes of securing the gold medal in the Central Zone competition.
Kyrgyzstan dominated the opening set, winning 25–11, as Maldives struggled to settle into the match and made several unforced errors. The Maldivian side also had difficulty blocking the attacks of Kyrgyzstan’s taller players.
However, Maldives made a strong comeback in the second set, showing improved confidence and better ball distribution. They won the set 25–22, with several crucial points scored late in the game.
Maldives carried the momentum into the third set, winning 25–19.
The fourth set proved to be the most competitive, but Maldives held their nerve to close out the match 25–22, sealing a 3–1 victory.
The win placed Maldives at the top of the tournament rankings, with Kyrgyzstan in second place, Afghanistan in third, and Bangladesh in fifth.
Maldives will now face Bangladesh in the ranking match, while Kyrgyzstan will play Afghanistan. The winners of the two matches will meet in the final.
