A young Nepalese woman has been arrested with drugs from her apartment in the Machangolhi district of Male’ City.
The 21-year-old woman, who is accused of the use, possession and peddling of drugs, was presented before a judge at the Criminal Court for an extension to her remand hearing on Saturday.
The court warrant for her remand shows the police found enough drugs in her room to meet the threshold for trafficking.
In addition to the drugs, the police also found out in the open in her room drug paraphernalia – specifically equipment used to weight and pack drugs – which the police believe suggests her involvement in peddling drugs.
She also tested positive for cannabis.
The court remanded her in custody of the police for five days after she requested time to hire a lawyer.
The police also arrested a 40-year-old Indian man in a drug case the same day. However, it is unclear if the two cases are related.
