Criminal Court has sentenced a person to 15 years in prison for possession of drugs.
Sentencing Mohamed Aslam of G. Aakaash Villa to 15 years in prison last Thursday, Criminal Court stated that it has been proven in court by the testimonials of eye witnesses that on the afternoon of 14th January 2010, he was arrested by the police from Rahdhebai Café taken to the Male’ Custodial and upon inspection, narcotics was found in the pocket of his jeans.
The sentence also stated the test results show that a substance found on a piece of cellophane founds from his jeans pocket was tested positive for 0.1158 grams of Tetrahydrocannabinol and 0.0816 grams of Cannabinol, and that 6 other rubber packets confiscated from his person tested positive for 0.0052 grams of Heroin and 0.0369 grams of Xanax.
He was charged under the former law for drug offences as the current drugs offences law had not been ratified at the time he committed the crime.
