Agreement signed to build fishing port and processing facility in Kandholhudhoo

A cold storage and fish processing facility will be developed in R. Kandholhudhoo, along with a modern fishing port, under a new government project awarded to 3 Way Enterprises Pvt. Ltd.  

The agreement was signed on Saturday evening during the Fishermen’s Day ceremony in R. Dhuvaafaru, with Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam signing on behalf of the government and Managing Director Hassan Ibrahim representing the company.  

The project includes:

  • Construction of a cold storage facility  

  • Development of a fish processing plant  

  • Establishment of a modern fishing port in Kandholhudhoo  

No further details about the contract have been disclosed.  

The Ministry said the project will create new income opportunities for the people of Dhuvaafaru, many of whom have historical ties to Kandholhudhoo.  

Before the 2004 tsunami, Kandholhudhoo was a thriving fishing island inhabited by the Dhuvaafaru community.
