The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the two members who submitted their candidacy for the party’s primary election to decide a presidential candidate, are PPM Parliamentary Group Leader Abdullah Yameen and Umar Naseer.
PPM, led by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is currently the political party with the second highest membership. The deadline to submit the forms was up at 3:30 pm today. The primary has been scheduled for 30 March.
Umar Naseer also contested in the presidential election in 2008.
Campaigns are under way by Gayoom’s brother Yameen and Umar for the PPM primary. Party President Gayoom has said that he would not support any candidate before the primary election.
