Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to move Parliament to remove Criminal Court Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad from his post.
The JSC announced Wednesday that its inquiry committee had found Judge Faiz acted in violation of the Constitution and laws when deciding on the remand of a man arrested in connection with a case.
The Commission said his actions breached Article 33(g) of the Judiciary Act and Articles 1.1, 2.1 and 3.1 of the Code of Conduct for Judges.
Faiz was already serving a 60-day suspension when the decision for removal was made.
He had previously been suspended in November 2021 over leaked audios of judges discussing the trial of former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom. That suspension was lifted in December 2021 after the JSC concluded his voice did not match the recordings.
Judge Faiz was transferred to the Criminal Court in February 2019, after serving as a Civil Court judge. Before that, he was President of the Employment Tribunal.
