The Maldives Meteorological Service has warned of rough weather across the country, urging travellers to prepare for strong winds, heavy rain, and turbulent seas over the next three days.

In a weather alert issued Monday, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) echoed the MET advisory, urging seafarers to avoid non-essential travel and take extra precautions if journeys are unavoidable. Vessels should be equipped with life jackets, communication systems, and drainage pumps, while cargo boats are advised not to overload and to carry valid licenses. Organizers of diving and water sports activities have also been asked to monitor conditions closely.

The MNDF further advised the public to follow all alerts issued by the MET office, especially as the southwest monsoon intensifies.

MET officials told Sun that while severe weather is expected to persist through the week, conditions are likely to improve by early next week.
