Applications have opened for couples to receive public health insurance coverage, Aasandha, to undergo In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment through the state-run Fertility Care Fund.
In a statement on Monday, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) announced that 50 couples who score the highest will be eligible for Aasandha under the scheme this year.
Applications can be submitted via the government portal between November 20 and December 20.
Aasandha was expanded to cover IVF early last year. 100 couples were selected to undergo IVF among the first batch of applicants. Of them, 93 couples underwent IVF, 23 of whom successfully conceived.
Introducing Aasandha coverage for IVF and IUI treatments was one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledges – and one which he had promised to deliver within the first 14 weeks in office.
The fertility treatments are currently available in the Maldives at Tree Top Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Dharumavantha Hospital.
The policy for provision of IVF and IUI treatment via Aasandha scheme is available on NSPA’s website.
