Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) presidential primary candidate Abdulla Yameen has said that it will not cause the party to faction even if Ilyas Ibrahim decides to compete in the upcoming primaries and that the members of the party are more aware than to allow that to happen.
Speaking to the press late last night, Yameen said that having won a number of elections, PPM is the most popular party among the public and that the party has seen competitive elections take place within itself and that what happened then, could possibly not happen now.
“I don’t believe that Ilyas Ibrahim competing, or Umar Naseer competing, will cause PPM loosen and faction, I cannot believe,” said Yameen.
Yameen said that if Ilyas choses to compete, it is his right to do so and that it poses no problems. He said that while Ilyas will be campaigning, he will be doing the same and it is nothing to mull over.
When asked who he will chose as a running mate if he gets the chance to compete in the presidential elections, Yameen said that he has listed down his choices of people who he might pick, but said that he will announce the decision if he gets the chance to compete in the presidential election.
Yameen said that a number of educated and capable people will join the party soon.
