A landing craft capsized off the Male’ Commercial Port on Saturday, resulting in injuries to at least six people.
The incident was reported to the police at around 03:44 pm.
According to the police, initial reports suggest there were 14 people on board when the landing craft capsized, all of whom are now accounted for.
Six people were taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) with injuries. They were identified as four Maldivian citizens and two foreign nationals.
According to the police, one of the foreign nationals taken to the hospital sustained major injuries and is in serious condition.
Both the police and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Male’ Area Command’s Coast Guard Second Squadron are operating at the scene.

The incident comes two weeks after a landing craft capsized while en route to K. Eriyadhoo, resulting in the death of three sailors.
