Court hearing over the arrest of Judge Abdulla cancelled

The hearing over the case submitted subsequent to the unlawful arrest of Judge Abdulla has been cancelled due to the refusal by the Police and National Defence Force to comply with the court order requesting the presence of Judge Abdulla at the Court.

The Criminal Court had issued an order to the Police and Defence Force demanding the presence of Judge Abdulla at the Court at 3.00pm today.

In a letter sent by the Police in response to the Court order, they said that since Judge Abdulla is not being held by the Police, it is not possible for them to facilitate his attendance at the Court.

The National Defence Force failed to respond to the court order in any way.

The Criminal Court had also summoned Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh and Chief of Defense Force Moosa Ali Jaleel at 3.00pm today. However, the Attorney General had appealed against these two orders.

An interim order issued by the High Court subsequent to the appeal says that since the Attorney General has appealed against the summon of Faseeh and Jaleel to the Criminal Court, enforcement of this order is postponed until a decision is made on this issue.
