The SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC) has officially rebranded as SME Digital, signaling a strategic shift from financing provider to digital enabler for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The new name and logo were unveiled Wednesday morning at a ceremony held at Barcelos Nassandhura, launched by Bank of Maldives (BML) Chairman Ahmed Ali Habeeb and CEO Mohamed Shareef.

SDFC CEO and Managing Director Badhurudheen Hassan said the rebranding marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to transforming the SME ecosystem through modern technologies, innovative solutions, and active collaboration. “Today’s SMEs need more than just financing, they require strong business networks, technical expertise, digital infrastructure, and continuous support,” he said.

SME Digital will roll out its services in phases, offering:

  • Financing solutions

  • Market access

  • Financial management tools

  • Operational efficiency support

A dedicated SME Digital mobile app is also in development, designed as an all-in-one hub for business planning, payments, and marketplace access. In the meantime, customers can begin accessing SME Digital facilities and make payments via the BML mobile app starting Thursday.

The rebrand follows the government’s sale of its stake in SDFC to BML in July, part of a five-year financing agreement worth MVR 1.9 billion to support SME growth.
