Electrical short circuit sparks fire at Hiyaa apartment

A fire broke out an apartment located in the Hiyaa towers in Hulhumale’ Phase II on Wednesday, resulting in extensive damages.

The fire, which took place in the balcony of a third-floor apartment at Hiyaa Tower 11, was reported to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service at around 11:25 am.

The fire at the crowded Hiyaa towers caused panic, as the sound of explosions was heard as flames engulfed the balcony.

Firefighters from the MNDF were immediately deployed to put out the fire.

According to the MNDF, the fire was caused by an electric short circuit of the exhaust fan at the balcony.

While the incident did not result in any injuries, it resulted in extensive damages to the balcony.
