The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) recently hosted a special gala to commemorate National Tourism Day.
The event, held at Kurumba Maldives, saw the attendance of Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, MATI officials, and prominent stakeholders from the Maldivian tourism sector.
A poignant moment of silence was observed in memory of Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik), a revered pioneer of Maldivian tourism who passed away on August 30. Tributes were delivered, honoring his significant contributions and enduring legacy.
Speaking at the ceremony, MATI Vice Chairman Hussain Afeef (Champa Afeef) underscored the initial challenges and hardships faced by the Maldives' tourism industry. He emphasized the importance of never forgetting the sacrifices and diligent efforts that paved the way for its success.
The association's Vice Chairman, Salah Shihab, also addressed the attendees.
The gala concluded with a captivating presentation titled "The Story of Maldivian Tourism," which took attendees on a historical journey, highlighting the industry's remarkable growth and achievements over the past five decades.
Maldives celebrates National Tourism Day on October 3rd, marking the opening of the Maldives' first resort, Kurumba Village, in 1972.
