Purse snatched from elderly woman in Male' City

A video has emerged showing a young man stealing a purse from an elderly woman who was walking along Kinbigas Magu behind the Henveiru cemetery in Male’ city on Saturday morning.

The CCTV footage, released by local Basil Mohamed, shows the incident at 09:04 on Saturday. He identified the elderly woman in the video as his mother.

The video depicts a young man walking behind the woman, following her on Kinbigas Magu. The woman was carrying a black bag and a black purse.

The man, dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans, ran up to the woman and snatched her black purse before rapidly fleeing the scene.

The footage also shows the elderly woman walking quickly behind the man after he grabbed the purse.

There has been no immediate comment from the police regarding the incident.

Such robbery incidents are reportedly increasing at a worrying rate in the city.
