Veteran TV news anchor and journalist Shifla Ibrahim has been elected vice president of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).
Shifla, who has been a member of BroadCom since 2021, was elected the Commission’s vice president following the resignation of Mohamed Fazeen Ali, who previously held the post, on March 17th.
Fazeen had resigned in face of a no-confidence motion against him at the Parliament over a sexual misconduct allegation.
BroadCom’s President Sofa Shafeeg applauded Shifa’s election as vice president, citing it to be an honor of the Commission as she is among the most experienced individuals in the broadcasting field in the Maldives at present.
Shifla received the backing of the Parliament for her appointment to BroadCom in 2021 during the third time she had applied for the post.
Shifla, who has a Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Communications from the Islamic University of Maldives, began her journalism career in Television Maldives (TVM) as an announcer trainee back in 1999, where she worked the majority of her career as a presenter and a journalist.
