Sun Siyam Media (SS Media) on Tuesday has signed on as the official media partner of ‘The Mangrove Island’ football tournament organized by N. Kendhikulhudhoo island council.
The agreement was signed between Kendhikulhudhoo council’s member Mohamed Shahid and SS Media’s Chief Content Officer Mohamed Zaheen.
The tournament has been officially dubbed ‘The Mangrove Island’ for destination promotion purposes. The tournament acts as the ample event to promote the island’s appeal as a top-of-the-mind sports tourism venue.
The football tournament has been organized and held consistently since the fourth term of the island’s council commenced, and this year marks the tournament’s second edition.
While noting participation of eight teams from across the country, Shahid noted the total number of teams partaking in this year’s event dropped owing to the ongoing FAM league.
‘The Mangrove Island’ tournament’s first game is scheduled for kick off on April 20, 2025 with all the matches scheduled at Kendhikulhudhoo.
“The main objective of the tournament is to run economic activities, and while the council is expending for the event, the island will be reaping actual benefit of the tournament, including the various commercial activities the visiting teams would be engaging in during their stay, which would include them taking various venues in the island on rent. This event would expose the island as a top destination for the entire country,” Shahid said.
Zaheen expressed delight in SS Media’s role as the official media partner for the tournament, and noted pride of becoming a part of one of the biggest sporting events held in the country.
He also assured maximum exposure of the event across all of SS Media’s platforms.
“We assure top quality coverage of the football event, and we are currently working to ensure the event is advertised amply through various programs. We have already drawn-out plans to achieve this,” Zaheen added.
SS Media owned brands, Sun Online and SSTV will provide real-time coverage of the event.
