Housing Ministry has extended the window to submit complaints for list of flat recipients under the former administration's 'Gedhoruveriya' housing scheme until April 15th.
‘Gedhoruveriya’ is a social housing scheme that was launched by the former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration. The first 4,000 units under the project was built in Hulhumale’ Phase II by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC). The MDP administration released the list of recipients of the first 4,000 flats in its last days. However, the list drew the scrutiny of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), following allegations of irregularities and corruption in the award of the flats.
The corruption watchdog ordered for the suspension of the issuance of flats as it investigated the case, before finally giving the Housing Ministry the go-ahead to proceed in February 2024, after which the Housing Ministry initiated a lengthy review of applications.
The new list was released on February 27 after a verification process that lasted over a year.
Housing Ministry, via an announcement on the government gazette on Wednesday, said the Ministry was working on addressing concerns raised in the complaints received for the list so far.
It was underscored that individuals who were declared both eligible and ineligible in the former administration’s flat list had submitted various documents to the portal during the complaints window.
The Ministry assured remedies for complaints submitted by individuals declared ineligible in the verified list published by the current administration if they can prove eligibility based on information available via records from various government institutions.
As such, the Ministry has requested such individuals to submit detailed complaints via the portal.
The Ministry further said they will be expanding the complaints window until April 15th, citing the impending government holidays from Thursday to April 5th.
Applicants can submit complaints via the Gedhoruverin Portal, while non-applicants can submit complaints via email to [email protected] or via letter to the Housing Ministry.
