A shop in Maldivian capital, Male’, has been robbed by two people wielding a sharp-edged weapon.
In a message to the media on Tuesday, Maldives Police Service said they received a report of two individuals robbing a shop in Maafannu district after threatening the shopkeeper with a sharp-edged weapon at approximately 9:25am on Monday morning.
According to the Police, items robbed the individuals after threatening the shopkeeper included money and cigarettes among other things.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
CCTV footage of the robbery viral on social media shows two individuals entering the shop and threatening the shopkeeper. They are also seen taking money from the register. According to the post, the two individuals threatened the shopkeeper with a boxcutter.
Theft and robbery remain prevalent in the Maldives. Often, large sums of money stolen in theft and robberies go unrecovered.
