The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has hosted a special seminar on Maldives tourism at the ITB Berlin 2025.
The seminar, entitled “The Next Chapter of Maldives Tourism – Berlin Edition” was held on March 4, 2025 at the Hybrid Studio 5.3 of the event venue, where various initiatives and investments in the Maldivian tourism industry were discussed.
The Minister of Tourism, Thoriq Ibrahim; the Managing Director of MMPRC, Ibrahim Shiuree; President of Maldives Association Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and the Chairperson of MMPRC, Abdulla Giyas; and the Chairman of Champa Crown Group, Hussain Afeef joined the seminar as speakers.
The seminar was emceed by the Chief Operating Office (COO) of MMPRC Sabeeha Ahmed.
In his speech, the Chairperson of MMPRC highlighted the interests of the current traveler to the Maldives. He also shone light to the significance of collaborative policies and initiatives to attract diverse visitor segments.
Giyas also discussed the role of media representatives in promoting the Maldives at the international travel and tourism landscape.
At the seminar, it was announced that Maldivian, the national carrier, is launching a new direct route between the Maldives and Germany.
Germany has remained among the strongest and most consistent source markets to the Maldives; and was constantly ranked fifth throughout last year and remains the fifth top market to the island nation so far this year as well with over 29,000 arrivals as of March 5th.
Besides the seminar where industry professionals shared their vision and experience, MMPRC also said it had provided the latest in travel and trade updates about the Maldives tourism experience to the attendees.
The Minister of Tourism had provided insights into the current government’s vision on tourism industry expansion including key initiatives, policies, 5TMP strategies, and the connection between tourism expansion and destination development.
“The government is committed to facilitate a conducive investment and operating environment for the industry,” Minister Thoriq said.
MMPRC Managing Director had discussed the tourism board’s marketing initiatives that are aligned with the national goals for the tourism industry.
“The Maldives has been the World’s Leading Destination for five consecutive years, and our goal is to maintain and strengthen this position,” Shiuree commented.
