Probe underway into the death of a person with disabilities at IGMH

Maldives Police Service has launched a probe into the death of a person with disabilities at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.

In a message to the media on Friday, Police said the case was reported to the authority by IGMH.

The authority said they were clarifying further information at the moment to respond to additional questions.  

Police detailed that their procedure with respect to every reported death involves taking samples for investigation regardless of any suspicions. As such, the authority noted that they were abiding by their standard protocol in this case as well.

They noted that the case will be filed based on the results of the test results.

Notably, the case comes after allegations of negligence against Gaafu Alifu Atoll Hospital in Villingili over the death of a woman and her newborn baby shortly after the birth. The Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident, probing any negligence.
