Maldives-Estonia sign MoUs on political consultation and cybersecurity

The governments of Maldives and Estonia have executed two MoUs on Tuesday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the MoU on political consolations was signed by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.

The Ministry states the MoU marks a significant step in strengthening Maldives-Estonia partnership, paving the way for regular dialogue and enhanced cooperation in the years to come.

The second MoU pertains on cooperation in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, smart technologies and cybersecurity. It was signed by Home Minister Ali Ihusan on behalf of the Maldivian government and Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Liisa-Ly Pakosta in behalf of the Maldivian government.

Both MoUs were signed as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Estonia at the invitation of his Estonian counterpart, Dr. Alar Karis.

According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu’s Estonia visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring partnership opportunities in digital technology, cybersecurity, e-governance, climate issues, and education between the Maldives and Estonia.

The President is scheduled to conclude his visit on Thursday.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of the Maldivian government.
