Maldives Police Service has searched the residences of Road Development Corporation (RDC)’s former Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) and a former head of the company who stand accused of huge corruption allegations.
According to the Police, they searched one residence associated Mookey and two residences associated with RDC’s former Chief Financial Officer Yasir Hassan from which they had seized electronic items.
RDC had been the target of huge corruption allegations during the former MDP administration. The state-owned company had been knee-deep in debt at the end of the administration.
As per the current management of RDC, the company’s debt burdens stood at MVR 837 million when they took over. The management also said MVR 161 million from company funds had been disbursed to various parties over a span of two years without any transaction slips.
On November 15th, 2023, Police raided RDC offices and project sites in Male’ City and seized a large number of documents.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is also presently investigating corruption allegations against the company.
Most of these allegations are centered around former managing director Mookey.
Another state-owned company under fire for corruption allegations during the last MDP administration was Fenaka Corporation. The company’s former managing Director Ahmed Saeed and Head of Procurement Dheena Solih was charged in connection to these allegations on Thursday.
