STELCO’s Managing Director Hussain Fahumy states the generator in V. Rakeedhoo is now only turned on for two hours per day with the hybrid PV-BESS-DG system in place to power the island.
A hybrid PV-BESS-DG system combines a photovoltaic (PV) system, battery energy storage system (BESS), and a diesel generator (DG) to provide a reliable power supply.
Fahumy, via a post on X, described Rakeedhoo as a renewable energy pioneer with the use of a hybrid PV-BESS-DG system to power the island by utilizing solar and battery storage. As such, he said the island’s generator has to only be turned on for two hours daily.
“V. Rakeedhoo shines as a renewable energy pioneer! ???? The hybrid PV-BESS-DG system now powers the island, utilizing solar & battery storage while running the generator for just 2 hours daily.
