Maldives recognized with two global health accolades

The World Health Organization (WHO) has conferred the Maldives with two public health achievement awards from the South Asian region.

The WHO initiated its 77^th Southeast Asian regional committee meeting in New Delhi, India on Monday where countries with notable achievements in public health were recognized.

The Maldives was recognized with public health achievement awards for Hepatitis B control in children and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global targets for reduction of under-5 mortality, neonatal mortality and stillbirth rates.

Besides the Maldives, South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand were also recognized with the public health achievement awards at the committee meeting.

The WHO declared Maldives and Sri Lanka has having fully controlled Hepatitis B on January 17, 2024.

The WHO meeting among Southeast Asian countries has been convened to discuss on the development of human capacity and seek support among the countries to enhance public health sector.
