Govt. condemns attack on the residence of the UAE Ambassador in Sudan

Maldivian government has strongly condemned the attack targeting the residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. 

Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Monday, emphasized that targeting diplomatic facilities was a blatant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international laws on diplomatic immunity. 

The government also reaffirmed the necessity of upholding the inviolability of diplomatic premises, in accordance with international treaties and customs that regulate diplomatic relations. 

“The government and the people of Maldives stand in solidarity with the Government and the people of UAE during this time,” read the statement.

Reuters reported that UAE government claimed the residence of its ambassador in Khartoum had been attacked by a Sudanese military aircraft which they condemned as a "heinous attack."

However, the Sudanese army rejected the accusation and pointed the blame towards the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Prior to this, Sudanese army has accused UAE of supplying arms to RSF.
