Saudis announce medical and relief aid for Lebanon amid deadly bombings

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

Saudi Arabia has issued directives to provide medical and relief aid to the Lebanese people amid deadly Israeli airstrikes.

In a statement on Monday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said it is following the developments in Lebanon with great concern.

It emphasized "the need to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity” and affirmed “its solidarity with the Lebanese people against the repercussions of these events and the need to limit their humanitarian consequences.”

It also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards protecting regional peace and security to spare the region and its people from the dangers and tragedies of wars.

“Based on the Kingdom’s supportive position towards our brothers in Lebanon, the Kingdom’s leadership has issued directives to provide medical and relief aid to the Lebanese people to support them during these critical circumstances,” reads the statement.

Israel launched a major bombing campaign against Lebanon on September 23 with the stated aim of pushing Hezbollah off its border.

The offensive has killed over 800 people, including women and children, and left widespread destruction in villages and towns across Lebanon, especially in the south of the country.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has pushed on with its offensive in Gaza, which has killed more than 41,500 Palestinians and destroyed large parts of the territory.
