Window incident: Police deny alleged remarks made to victim’s family

Maldives Police Service has denied the remarks made by the family of the victim who was injured by a falling window from a house in Male’ claiming lack of cooperation from the Police and being instructed by the authority to find the witnesses who saw the incident on their own accord.

The incident occurred at approximately 19:12pm on Wednesday at Jahaamuguri Goalhi in Maafannu district.

The wife of the man injured in the incident shared a Facebook post on Friday night in which she shared the family’s concerns surrounding the incident and the fact that the man sustained significant injuries.

As per the post, despite the family seeking assistance from the Police, the family received no assistance from the Police allegedly citing the landlord of the house as uncooperative. It was said that the Police also instructed the family to seek out witnesses who saw the incident on their own accord. The family, henceforth, expressed concern while stressing seeking witnesses was the responsibility of the Police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police and Spokesperson of Maldives Police Service Ahmed Shifan via a post on X wished a speedy recovery for the victim while expressing that the Police were with them during this time of hardship.

However, he denied that the Police had responded to the family in that manner. In this regard, he said the family was explained the obstructions to the investigation in detail, adding the case was still under investigation.

As per the victim’s wife, the impact of the falling window resulted in multiple cuts and large scrapes on his body, several of which required stitches, as well as a significant head injury and trauma.  His motorbike was also significantly damaged in the incident.
