The Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has begun investigating doctored O’Level certificates currently making rounds.

MQA said on Friday the ‘recognition’ sign stamped on local certificates for courses and training programs run across locally registered academic institutions, has been stopped since September 1, 2016.

The authority said they discovered, what is believed to be doctored certificates from two individuals who had submitted documents to it for various services. These forged certificates bear the name of two local academic institutions.

MQA added these institutions further confirmed the certificates have not been issued by them, and were in fact forgeries.

Since one of these certificates is related to teaching, the authority has cautioned employers when making new hires.

MQA said it has now begun discussions with all parties involved, and added it was working to submit the issue to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
