Indian EAM inspects Thilamale’ Bridge progress

The Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar visited the Thilamale' Bridge on Saturday.

The Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar on Saturday has inspected the progress of the ongoing Thilamale’ Bridge.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Jaishankar said on X that this project will enhance connectivity and stimulate the economy.

During Dr. Jaishankar’s visit to inspect the bridge progress, he was accompanied by the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer and the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.

The Thilamale’ Bridge, which commenced in August 2021, is a USD 400 million initiative with the funds arranged through a Line of Credit from the EXIM Bank of India.

 

Earlier, President Dr. Muizzu had forecast the bridge’s completion and unveiling by 2026, but later said the entire project will conclude by early 2025. He added this during his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister. Minister Narendra Modi during the sidelines of the 28the COP Summit, the two leaders discussed about expediting the bridge project.
