Unregistered vehicles, especially cars have been filling parking spots across Hulhumale’ with increasing public dismay.

A Maldivian Facebook user on Sunday, shared a post with images of unmarked/unregistered vehicles parked across various parking spots in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

Cars parked outside of authorized parking zones are often towed by police, which the user highlighted, and added that the commonfolk are forced to keep their vehicles outside of such parking zones such authorized zones have been taken up by unmarked cars imported for sale.

“The vehicles of poor public, regardless of whether they pay annual fees and charges on time, will be towed when they are forced to park outside authorized places owing to lack of space,” the user captioned in his post.

Meanwhile, government introduced even further stringent measures to register four wheelers with the aim to solve parking issues.

As per regulations, a registered garage must be assigned to registered vehicles. This hinders import and registration of vehicles, especially in Greater Male’ area, since the number of garages corresponding with the total number of four wheelers is significantly insufficient.

Cars or vehicles imported spend considerable idle time in various parking zones, due to which active vehicle users do not get sufficient space to park their automobiles.

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation assured vigilance and active monitoring of four-wheeler registration in Greater Male’ area.

While the number of unmarked/unregistered vehicles parked across Greater Male’ area rose significantly before, authorities have been towing such vehicles.

More than 80,000 vehicles, which includes 45,000 automobiles are registered to the capital city area.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration promised a definitive solution to congestion and lack of parking zones in Greater Male’ area.
