Fenaka Corporation has announced the installation of solar power panels in Thaa atoll as part of its ‘Poised Project’.

According to the utility provider, Fenaka is set to install 2.49-megawatt solar panels along with a 1.9-megawatt battery energy storage system. Besides this, solar panels have been installed and pre-commissioned across majority of Thaa atoll islands, with commissioning expected for the remaining before July end.

Fenaka is also set to install solar power systems in both Baa and Raa atolls as part of the project as well, which include installation of 2.74-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in Baa atoll and 3.599-megawatt solar panels in Raa atoll.

Solar panels, worth a total of 5-megawatt are installed across Fenaka Corporation’s power stations as well.

The utility provider will also install solar power systems in the six largest island communities of Maldives; Addu City, Thinadhoo City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, Lh. Hinnavaru, and B. Eydhafushi under the ‘ASPIRE’ project, which is a total of 11-megawatt solar power infrastructure.

The Poised Project is a joint initiative of Fenaka Corporation and Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy through an Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant, with the primary objective of reducing fuel dependency by introducing solar-diesel hybrid power output systems.

Fenaka adds the project is aligned with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his administration’s strategic action plan aimed generating 33 percent of the total electricity output from renewable or alternative energy means.
