Seven arrested from Hulhumale’ with one-kilo of drugs

Maldives Police Service has arrested seven people from Hulhumale’ while in possession of drugs during an operation carried out based on a tip received to Police Intelligence.

Two apartments and two cars in Hulhumale’ were searched under a court order on Tuesday as part of this operation.

Police said the interim weight of the drugs seized during the search accounted for 1,085.71 grams.

The operation conducted in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Department and Police Intelligence also saw the arrests of seven people. Police identified the suspects as aged between 18 and 39.

They have been remanded in custody for 10 days by the Criminal Court.

Police said the case is under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Department.

The operation is among the many carried out by the Police to combat drugs in the Maldives.

Such an operation has recently been conducted at Maafushi Prison as well, which saw the arrest of 13 prison officers involved in smuggling drugs to the prison.
