MDP meets Speaker, requests protection of party rights

The parliament’s minority party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s leadership met with Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla to beseech protection of the party’s rights.

MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed, Spokesperson Anas Abdul Sattar and Secretary General Shazly Shafeeq met with Abdul Raheem.

The party confirmed on X that it had requested the parliament speaker to ensure protection of the minority party’s parliamentary rights, and enhance larger scope of involvement in the parliament’s affairs.

MDP also requested the speaker to ensure the current assembly does not follow suit of the circumstances that hindered the 18th assembly.

Besides the Speaker, Parliament’s Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim along with ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s parliamentary group leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ahmed Falah attended the meeting as well.
